Since I don't think that I can add pictures here, it's little difficult to explain, if someone is really curious I'm happy to share a very simply test code to replicate the issue.

It's only the combination of Mac OS and Oracle Java SE 7 which is causing the problem. I don't think that none contracted users can raise bugs, right? If you have Java 7 or later versions, you will see a Java icon under System Preferences.

To get the latest Java from Oracle, you will need Mac OS X 10.7.3 and above. Q: I have installed Java for OS X 2012-006 and Apple Java 6 can no. The Mac OS X Install FAQ will be updated with the next 7u release, but you may find the following information useful in the meantime.
Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and above: Java is not pre-installed with Mac OS X versions 10.7 and above. The recent Java Mac OS X 2012-006 update from Apple removes the Apple Java 6 plug-in from your Mac. Save the code in a file with the name the Pico editor, you do this by typing Ctrl-O and then, at the bottom where you see the prompt File Name to write:, entering the directory in which you wish to create the file, followed by example, if you wish to save HelloWorldApp. The same little test program runs fine under Windows 7 (same JRE) and it does the job perfectly using the previous Apple provided JRE 1.6.0_37. Mac OS X 10.6 and below: Apples Java comes pre-installed with your Mac OS. I'm running Mac OS X (10.9.1) and Oracle Java 1.7.0_45 on a Mac Book Pro with Retina display (which is of course a challenge -)). It basically gets out of sync and depending on what you type, the Caret which is supposed to show after the last character (while basically only inserting new chars) is either to far ahead or lacking behind (depending on what you've typed, it's the accumulated width of the text that seems to make the difference). The very basic problem is that the Caret (cursor) does not align with the text you type. I've been spending hours and hours trying to understand why JEditorPane in edit mode doesn't really work on my Mac.
As far as I or other researchers can determine, Apple never pushed out this version of their Java update to anyone on any version of OS X.
